Close calendar hygiene for lean FP&A teams

Practical sequencing for actuals cut-off, variance drafting, and leadership review when the same people own all three steps.

Lean teams often collapse cut-off, analysis, and review into the same afternoon. That compresses judgment. Protect at least half a day between reconciled actuals and the first variance draft.

Publish a freeze time for late journals. Without it, every late entry reopens classification work and the narrative never settles.

Pair each variance owner with a backup before leave season. Hong Kong public holidays and travel weeks routinely break single-threaded close calendars.

After three closes, review which steps always slip. Adjust the calendar; do not simply ask people to work later.
